Safety Tips

- Log all serial and test certificate numbers of new equipment.

- When calculating the required SWLtake into account the included weightof slings, hoists, etc. Make sure the ultimate suspension point has anadequate SWL rating.

- Ensure you have the correct safe working load, check tags, labels, plates or markings.

- Allow for the included angle and unequal loading on multi-leg slings. Use a spreader beam where angles are too great and headroom is restricted.

- Use shortening clutches and hooks where necessary on chain slings.

- Inspect links and hooks for sharp edges, use padding or wear sleeves especially when using wire or or webbing slings.

- Avoid eye opening angles in excessof 1200 degrees on wire, chain and webbing slings.

- Look for wear, damage or elongation,if suspect contact us immediately.

- Do not attempt to make temporaryrepairs to any part of the lifting equipment. Faulty equipment must be removed from service by law.

- Check all lifting apparatus is attached securely and safety catches are fully engaged.

- Do not lift with knotted or twisted slings.

- Avoid dragging loads, this may trap and damage slings.

- When under slinging, the sling shouldbe able to move freely before the loadis taken up.

- Straight unhindered lifts are preferred,do not allow the load to swing.Should an angled lift be absolutely necessary, the load must be controlled by horizontal guys and winches. Please seek advice from our technical staff.

- When lifting and traversing loads lookout for pedestrians, make sure they do not stand directly below or within the loads path, make provision for audible and visual warnings.

- Establish whether the working environment may have any detrimental effects on the lifting equipment, i.e. acid, excess temperatures, explosive conditions, etc. We will be pleased to advise.

- Check that all lifting equipment conforms to statutory requirements and regular periodic inspections are carried out by qualified personnel.

- See inside back cover which definesthe Statutory Requirements for Lifting Equipment.

- Establish what weight you are lifting.

- Avoid snatch lifts.

- Plan your lift.

- Supervise difficult lifts.
